Isolines

Lviv 2018
In the “Isolines” series, Liudmyla Davydenko explores a third dimension through layered canvases filled with level lines—symbols of equality and balance, inspired by maps and diagrams. Evolving from her “Rhizomes” series, these works shift from expansion to leveling, where each line marks a moment of searching for truth. For the artist, creation is a continuous dialogue—questions and answers drawn across layers and depths.
Isopleth or level line (from the ancient Greek "equal") is a symbol on the map, drawing, diagram or graph, which represents a line at each point of which the measured rate retains the same value.

The subject/technique of nonlinear connections and plexuses acquire other meanings from work to work. Paintings from the "Izolines" series work with a new, third dimension. The works, preliminary-reproducing "expansion", "spreading", and "growth" on the plane ("rhizomes"), now manipulate with the "leveling" ("iso" – from the ancient Greek "equal"). Canvases like the maps of tectonic or meteorological indicators are filled with isolines: isopleths, isobars, isotherms...

For the artist, the process of her creativity is a continuous process of "questions and answers", where each line is a fixed moment of finding the truth. Layer stacking and multi-leveledness are another scale for measuring this constant movement.
